Burberry is gearing up to launch its own skincare line. The British fashion house already has an established make-up and fragrance offering, having brought its beauty business back in-house in late 2012 following a licencing agreement with Inter Parfums SA.
"We are talking to a range of possible partners [for the skincare line] about a range of possible relationships," said Burberry chief operating officer John Smith, stating at the house's preliminary results presentation that the decision was based upon the belief that the skincare category "drives loyalty over time". Burberry plans for the new collection to have a luxury positioning in the market -- noting that 26 billion pounds of the 60-billion-pound beauty industry comes from skincare alone.
Following a pleasing set of full-year Burberry figures -- the first announced since Christopher Bailey has filled both artistic director and CEO roles -- the fashion house also plans to open a second Beauty Box store in Asia next year.
